How JHC enriches the lives of our tenants
When you move into a flat, you want to make it your home. You want it to be a place where you are at ease and live happily with your neighbours. Well, this is exactly what JHC strives towards. We want all our tenants to feel at home and build a community that enriches and uplifts each other. As we know, the country faces several challenges, such as the latest pandemic, which has shown us the importance of ubuntu.
If you're curious as to how JHC enriches the lives of our tenants, read the article below.
Activities for kids
Our residences are suitable for kids of all ages. Whether you reside in the Brickfield flats, Heritage view flats in Newtown or any of our other flats, you can rest assured knowing that there are many things your child can do while you are residing with us. There are several community activities for kids, such as chess, the youth can participate in a mini writers' competition, mini soccer tournaments, and more. We try our best to ensure your children live in a safe and fun environment.
Participate in the fight against GBV
Gender-based violence (GBV) is a crisis in many countries, and the numbers have increased at an alarming rate in our country. According to statistics in this article, there has been a surge of violence against women, children and members of the LGBTQ+ community. As a housing company, we know the importance of being active in the fight against gender-based violence. We have women, children, and people from various marginalised communities within our residence who deserve a voice and protection. This is why we have partnered with the Lutheran Outreach Foundation that helps drive awareness projects such as the Men's Forum. This forum engages with men and women regarding GBV, how it affects people and communities, offers our support to victims, and offers counselling and therapy to tenants who need it. While this is an issue that affects the whole country and requires all hands on deck, we try by all means to ensure that our tenants are educated on the matter and feel safe and heard within our residences.
Community activities
To enrich our tenants' lives, we need to ensure all residences feel like a home with a community. This is why we have community engagement activities for tenants through initiatives done by Makhulong A Matala. Those activities include a food garden and food parcels for our tenants during COVID-19 lockdown, anti-litter and recycling projects, fun holiday-related events like Heritage Day events and Christmas parties, tenant inductions, occasional fitness-related activities, health checks done within their respective residences, and more. We have these activities in place to make people feel welcome, cared for and help them build relationships and a healthy lifestyle that will enrich their lives.
Encourage healthy living
Apart from encouraging healthy living as part of community activities, we ensure our tenants are in good health. With the latest pandemic, keeping healthy has proven to be essential for all ages. This is why we strive to offer affordable housing that still meets health and safety regulations. To keep our residences clean, we have a few initiatives. For instance, we have an anti-litter and recycling programme, where tenants voluntarily help cleaners clean the buildings they live in. The tenants also keep each other accountable for any behaviour that risks safety and health. We also have COVID-19 screening and testing for our tenants. We partnered with the Department of Health to ensure our residents can get coronavirus screening and testing done in the comfort of their own homes for free for any willing tenant.
In conclusion
At JHC, we believe in creating a community for our tenants. Whether you are looking for a flat to rent in Cosmo City or already live in our residence, such as Elangeni flats, we ensure that all our tenants feel the same. We work tirelessly to ensure that our tenants' voices are heard, and their concerns are met in an attempt to enrich their lives. We know that our tenants are usually from low to middle-income households; therefore, we try to ensure they live in comfort regardless of their current financial situations. We hope this article gives you a glimpse into life at our residences and that you are ready to become part of the family. You can contact us with any questions, as we are always happy to help.
