Be Out, Loud, And Proud
Are you a member of the LGBTQIA+ community or an ally looking for where to celebrate Pride and all the beautiful things this community has achieved? AGOG in New Doornfontein is the home of Vogue Nights Jozi (VNJ). Here you can enjoy a range of LGBTQIA+ celebratory events such as what is called a “Ball”. If you aren’t familiar with what a ball is, allow us to explain. A ball is a runway-centric event where contestants get to ‘walk’ and sometimes dance (in the form of vogueing) under numerous categories with experienced judges having to score them each after a walk. The categories include Face; where contestants have to show up with the most gorgeous makeup and facial structure and show it off, Runway; where they have to pull out their best fashion pieces and ‘werk’, Performance; where they have to put on a show for the judges, and many other categories which often get released a few weeks before the show so people prepare. Head to AGOG this silly season to marvel at the beauty that is this colourful community, and you will open a whole new world of LGBTQIA+ events through networking. If you stay in our Newtown, Fordsburg, or Hillbrow buildings, you can commute easily to AGOG using public transport.

The Beat Of Jozi, Music
Joburgers love their music festivals and events. It is no doubt why the famous AfroPunk festival graced our shores for three years straight, from 2017 to 2019. With the pandemic interrupting this flow, Jozi event organisers have been trying to bring back the love and vibes that come from these music festivals, and dare we say, they have succeeded. Currently, one of the most loved music event venues in Jozi is Untitled Basement. It is an intimate venue, on the basement level, created to house some of your favourite jazz, indie, and pop icons from around the country and the world. Think IAMDDB, Robert Glasper, Muneyi, Max Hoba, and more. Here, you can enjoy good music and great food while vibing with like-minded Jozi music fans. Emperor’s Palace and Bertrand Cafe are also gaining popularity for hosting amazing artists, and the legendary Market Theatre takes theatre and music to a whole new level. So, pop into one of these places and ask for their gig guide. You won’t be disappointed.
