How JHC And MAM Do Our Bit For The Community
Join Johannesburg Housing Company (JHC) and Makhulong-A-Matala (MAM) in their mission to create affordable housing options in Johannesburg.

Affordable housing is not only a JHC goal, but a worldwide goal which aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals curated by the United Nations.
Let’s talk about why that is and our contribution to the cause as a housing company.
The Future Is Promising
Population projections show that by 2050, 6.7 billion people will live in urban areas, an unprecedented proportion of the world's population. 90% of this increase will occur in Asia and Africa. There are currently 1.2 billion people without enough housing, and by 2030, 300 million more dwellings will be required. The potential's scope is obvious. Affordable housing represents a huge infrastructure opportunity to stimulate economies post Covid-19, embed green growth and sustainable cities, create jobs, rebalance economies, ensure greater resilience to future health shocks and all this alongside opening new markets and opportunities. To accommodate everyone, we need to build modern, sustainable cities. For all of us to survive and prosper, we need new, intelligent urban planning that creates safe, affordable and resilient cities with green and culturally inspiring living conditions.
Do It For The People
With the way the economy is set up and the post-suffering ramifications of Covid-19, the ongoing loadshedding struggle, and many other factors that influence our day-to-day living and livelihoods, it is important to create affordable housing options in Johannesburg. That is something we at Johannesburg Housing Company are doing with Makhulong-A-Matala. The Johannesburg Housing Company and our staff take seriously our responsibility to help build our country. Our corporate social investment focus is the inner city of Johannesburg as well as the communities in the areas where we have buildings and affordable apartments in Johannesburg. One of our milestone initiatives has to be LeadSA where we asked JHC staff members to select the benefactors they would like to donate to, help, and drive our involvement. Having chosen one charity a year, our staff also drove their own CSI initiatives and played a part in social outreach activities. Staff contributed their own time and money to their team’s chosen programmes, sharing a commitment to lending a helping hand to others who live in the city and to the greater good of the country as a whole. Then JHC would match the funds raised by staff.
Over the years, some of our chosen work for a specific year has been with Jabulani Khakibos Kids, Strathyre Girls Home, Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital, Tswelopele Frail Care Centre in Hillbrow, and Rhema Children’s Village in Yeoville – a showcase of community development projects in South Africa by JHC.
Want To Live Affordably? Join Us
At JHC, we offer affordable rates on housing, and our rental rates don’t increase drastically. We understand the complexities of living in a country and city whose economy may affect people drastically, that is why we ensure each one of our tenants feels like they are part of the JHC family. Take a look at our buildings in the city and the suburbs we can be found in, and come live with us. You’ll love it here.
