TECHNICAL BUSINESS ANALYST

ROLE PURPOSE: 
To own the business systems, to manage development, functionality and maintenance of the system and provide user support.

ROLE DELIVERABLES


Business Analysis (Essential Competence)    

  • To define system requirements by engaging with business, understand business needs and develop a draft system specification for approval as required
  • To identify system solutions by researching system options, evaluating functionality in line with business requirements, shortlisting potential solutions and presenting recommendations for approval as required
  • To identify system development requirements by reviewing business requirements, identifying development opportunities, drafting the development specification and costings and implementing or securing approval as required  

System Ownership (Essential Competence)

  • To manage systems operations by monitoring system functionality, identifying the areas for development, engaging with business to agree development, addressing system problems and managing implementation of corrective action daily and as required
  • To be the systems super-user by understanding all components of the systems, advising on systems functionality, promoting and guiding optimising system use 
  • System Maintenance
  • To resolve systems problems by reviewing issues logged, investigate the issue and understand the root cause, identifying appropriate solutions and managing implementation of corrective action daily and as required
  • To review system upgrades and custom developments by monitoring system functionality, identifying system issues and managing implementation of corrective action as required 
  • To test system changes by liaising with business, identifying test scenarios and developing test cases that meet the business requirements as required
  • To manage systems changes and upgrades by reviewing documentation, assessing implications, reviewing impact of the upgrade on the system customisation, identifying any risks, provide input on functional corrective action and test implementation as required

Data Management (Essential Competence)

  • To manage data quality by monitoring data issues, identifying data quality issues, engaging with the business to address data quality issues and reviewing data quality improvements as required
  • To extract and import data to support business by understanding business requirements, extract the data and submit to business for review and analysis as required 
  • To develop and execute SQL queries by developing the queries, extracting information, reviewing and analysing the outcome in line with the business requirements, identifying areas for amendment and implementing corrective action

Project Implementation Management

  • To contribute to project plans by identifying key project activities and milestones, developing timing and resource requirements and submitting for approval as required
  • To support project implementation by engaging service providers, monitoring work progress in line with the project plan and budget, identifying risks and provide input on corrective action as required
  • To contribute to project scope by reviewing implementation, evaluation delivery in line with the agreed scope, manage any scope adjustments and securing approval where relevant, identifying any risks and implementing corrective action as required 
  • To lead project teams by collaborating with operational team heads, coordinating work, liaising with service providers, initiating action, providing guidance and support and following up and controlling delivery in line with project priorities and plans
  • To manage multiple project processes simultaneously by prioritising actions, developing project plans, engaging with project participant, tracking delivery and providing input and technical support on an ongoing basis.
  • To hand projects over by engaging with key business partners and IT, facilitating and organising training of users, handing over maintenance components and inputs, reviewing risks and anomalies and implementing corrective action as required 

Management Information (Essential Competence)

  • To develop template for business reports by understanding business requirements, reviewing system information and submitting to business for review and amendment as required 
  • To manage report development by developing the scope, briefing service providers, briefing service providers on requirements and managing delivery of report development as required 

User Support (Essential Competence) 

  • To provide user support by understanding user needs, developing and delivering user training and answering user queries daily and as required
  • To train users by identifying skills development areas, developing training materials, coordinating skills development and monitoring skills development impacts as required 

ROLE REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications and Experience
NQF 7 in Commerce and Information Systems, Computer Science or similar is required.  In the absence of the relevant qualifications, extensive experience will be considered.  
Business analysis certification is preferred
3 - 5 years experience in ERP systems is required 
3 – 5 years SQL experience is required 
3 – 5 years experience in systems analysis is required
3 – 5 years experience in business analysis is required 
3 – 5 years experience in team leadership in an operations environment is required
3 – 5 years experience in functional testing is preferred
3 – 5 years experience in financial systems is preferred
Must have demonstrable experience in initiating and leading work independently
