FINANCIAL ACCOUNTANT

Role purpose:

To analyse financial information, prepare accurate and timely financial reports, management accounts and statements and implement and manage appropriate accounting controls.

Role deliverables:

Financial Accounting and Reporting

  • To reconcile general ledger accounts by inputting financial data, verify that the information is correct, investigate and resolve discrepancies and irregularities as required
  • To manage the accuracy and integrity of all source accounting within the financial accounting system by establishing and monitoring the implementation and maintenance of accounting control procedures as required.
  • To manage accurate and appropriate recording and analysis of revenues and expenses by developing financial reports in compliance with accepted policies and procedures, prepare and record journal entries, analyze and provide cash flow statements on business operations including revenue and expenditure trends, commitments and future revenues, generate accurate and complete monthly management reports. 
  • Compile and analyze financial information by consolidating information to be used in the preparation of financial statements including monthly and annual accounts, integrate all financial indicators into monthly management reports as required.
  • To provide support on budgets and forecast activities to the CFO and Management Accountant by compiling and consolidating information required, engaging with relevant stakeholders and providing input as required.
  • To prepare and submit VAT recons and the return by generating VAT information, analyze the information, address anomalies with SARS and monitor as per deadlines.
  • Oversee the preparation of the provisional and income tax returns in December and June for the Group by gathering all tax documents, check that the information is correct and submitted twice a year.
  • Manage the reconciliation of all reporting schedules by reviewing and signing off on journals and source documents as required by the CFO.

Audit Support

  • To prepare for the annual financial audit together with the Management Accountant by gathering all information required, assist auditors to facilitate an effective audit process and to attend to any audit queries that might arise.

Assets and Liabilities Management

  • To manage internal control of assets and assets register by supervising the transfer of the assets register to the system used by the company as required.
  • To monitor and manage JHC and subsidiary current and investment bank accounts by reviewing the bank accounts, ensure that the accounts are in order, report anomalies to the CFO, make recommendations as required.
  • To manage investment instructions of JHC group surplus funds in conjunction with the CFO.
  • To check and sign off all payments made on company’s account by verifying the information, checking the information is accurate and signing off for payments as required
  • To manage the safeguarding and maintenance of assets by monitoring company assets register through engagements with the stakeholders, ensure that the information populated is in order and accurate, supervise the transfer of the assets register to the system as required.
  • To manage the balancing of the tenant deposit trust account and the deposit listing. 

Creditors control

  • To manage the accurate payment of creditors 
  • To manage the reconciliation of all creditor accounts.
  • To manage the implementation of JHC service standards.
  • To oversee utilities accounts by reviewing and finalizing reconciliations, confirming payment amounts, supervising payment pack preparation, identifying areas of concern and implementing corrective action monthly
  • To monitor correction of utilities accounts by identifying anomalies, engaging with the Utilities Relationship Coordinator, tracking responses and resolutions and monitoring implementation in invoices monthly and as required

Cashflow management

  • Prepare an annual cashflow forecast monthly for all the entities and have a consolidated cashflow forecast for the group.
  • Advise the CEO and CFO of any identified gaps.

Staff Management

  • To support appointments of new staff by scoping the positions, reviewing and interviewing prospective candidates, assessing candidate suitability for positions and recommending appointments as required
  • Manage the induction of new staff by developing and implementing an induction programme, monitoring the effectiveness of the programme and addressing areas for improvement as required.
  • Manage the performance of staff by agreeing on performance standards and expectations, building staff relationships by meeting with staff regularly and assessing staff performance monthly and twice a year.
  • Manage the implementation of corrective action with staff by identifying areas of misconduct, managing and conducting investigations, preparing, and giving evidence and deciding on corrective action as required. 
  •  Develop staff by identifying skills development and growth requirements and opportunities, communicating this as necessary and releasing staff to participate in learning programmes monthly.
Role requirements:

Qualifications and Experience

  • A minimum of a degree in accounting or equivalent is required. 
  • Completion of recognized articles programme (e.g. SAICA, SAIPA, CIMA, ACCA or equivalent) will be an added advantage.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in management in finance is required (financial systems, budgets, financial reporting, auditing, data analysis and taxation)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and experience with relevant financial and accounting software
