Senior Data Analyst

Role purpose:

To develop and implement strategies for collecting, analysing, and interpreting data to provide valuable insights that inform business strategies, identify risks, drive data-driven decision-making and improve operational efficiency.

To ensure that data integrity is achieved and maintained by identifying and addressing data anomalies within JHC’s datasets through collaboration with cross-functional teams within JHC.

Essential Competence

Data Strategy and Planning 

· To develop and implement a comprehensive data strategy by understanding the JHC strategy and requirements, developing strategies for data collection, data integrity management, storage, analysis, and reporting methodologies and submitting for approval annually. 

· To develop the data management operational plan by aligning data analysis objectives with JHC strategic objectives, developing plans including deliverables and timeframes and submitting for approval annually.

Data Policies and Procedures 

· To develop and maintain data policies and procedures by understanding good practices, drafting policies, engaging with users and data stewards to facilitate buy-in to policies and submitting for approval as required.

· To monitor compliance with data policies and procedures by conducting compliance reviews, identifying areas of concern, engaging with line managers on corrective action required and following up on implementation of corrective measures quarterly and as required

Data Management and Analysis 

· To manage data collection by defining data requirements, identifying and validating internal and external data sources, validating data quality and integrity and overseeing the data collection process as required. 

· To manage data cleansing and integration by understanding the data warehouse requirements, identify areas for cleansing and transformation, implementing data cleansing processes, validating data integrity and submitting for integration into the data warehouse as required.

 To analyse data by collecting data, developing data models and scripts, assessing data consistency and quality, interpreting data trends and patterns, drafting reports and submitting findings, interpretations and recommendations monthly and as required.

· To communicate data-based business insights by extracting key data, translating into data visualisations, dashboards and reports and communicating to stakeholders monthly and as required · To draft key reports by developing systems to extract data, validating data, analysing and interpreting information and providing feedback monthly and as required. 

· To monitor data warehouse health by monitoring implementation of updates, analyse impacts of updates, identifying anomalies and implementing corrective action as required.

Data Governance and Quality Management 

· To develop the data governance framework by defining the governance structures and controls, engaging with stakeholders, liaising across data sources and systems and securing approval for the framework as required. 

· To manage the implementation of the data governance framework by training users, monitoring implementation, identifying areas of concern and implementing corrective action as required. 

· To monitor data quality by conducting data quality checks, identifying areas of concern, developing corrective measures, implementing the measuring and assessing the impact of the corrective action monthly and as required. 

· To improve data quality by identifying recurring patterns of anomalies and data integrity issues, develop initiatives to improve data quality, train users on data quality measures, monitor improvement and implement corrective action monthly and as required.

· To enhance data management practices by analysing data anomaly trends and patterns, conducting research on data management good practices, developing policies and procedures, securing approval and implementing practices as required.

Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement 

· To support decision making by identifying stakeholder data needs, collaborating with stakeholders, extracting and analysing data and providing feedback as required.

· To champion data integrity by identifying areas of excellence and risk, collaborating with data stewards1 in these areas, sharing good practices, developing solutions to address data integrity issues and implementing improvements as required.

· To communicate on data quality related matters by developing key inputs, engaging with the business, providing information on data quality issues, receiving feedback and integrating into messaging and feedback monthly and as required. 

· To train and mentor data stewards and other employees on data related matters by developing training materials, identifying data issues, supporting data anomaly detection, sharing best practices, delivering training content, engaging with and mentoring data stewards and staff.

Project Management 

· To manage data analysis projects by defining the scope, developing the budget, coordinating, and managing project resources, track project progress and outputs and reporting on projects monthly and as required. 

· To undertake special projects by understanding the scope, developing the project plans, defining and managing achievement of project deliverables and reporting on project progress as required.

Service Provider Management 

· To manage JHC’s Data Analysis Service Provider by clearly defining their role, responsibilities, and deliverables, tracking performance, identifying areas for improvement and managing corrective action monthly and as required. 

· To approve service provider payments by reviewing invoices against contracts and work undertaken, identifying any anomalies, addressing anomalies with service providers and approving invoices monthly and as required.

Role requirements:

Qualifications and Experience

· An NQF 8 qualification in business, finance, management information or similar is required

· A minimum of 5 – 8 years' experience in strategy, business efficiency, planning or similar is required

  • Must have demonstrable experience in initiating and leading work independently
