Douglas Rooms

6 Wilhemina Street
Troyeville
Johannesburg
Douglas Rooms used to be a miners’ hostel and dates from 1906.
The JHC bought the building in 1996 and refurbished it while the tenants continued to live in their units. Keeping the arrangement of single rooms with shared bathrooms and cooking facilities, which the tenants preferred, means rents can be kept low. In 2000, the JHC bought two adjacent apartment buildings, Parkzicht and Garden Mansions. Today, these three neighbouring buildings make up Douglas Village.
