Estabalished in 1995, at the dawn of South Africa's democracy, the Johannesburg Housing Company (JHC) has been widely recognised as a pioneer in social housing development and inner city regeneration.
Over the past 13 years JHC has developed innovative solutions to meet the housing needs of low- and moderated-income people seeking a home in the city. Through slum clean-ups, building upgrades, refurbishments and conversions, as well as new-build projects, JHC has developed more than 2800 homes. It has increased the housing stock in the inner city by 8%. It now owns 24 buildings and provides homes to more than 9000 men, women and children.
